‘stArts with D’ Performance Ensemble

‘stArts with D’ Performance Ensemble (SWD) is an Alice Springs based performing arts group made up of new and emerging artists with disability.

The project aim is to support people with disability to build skills, create, collaborate and show self-devised performance art.

The SWD project is overseen by local Community Arts and Cultural Development organisation Incite Arts and supported by community partners Acacia Hill School and Life Without Barriers.

Incite Arts has produced Arts and Disability Arts Programs since 2005, nurturing and supporting relationships between mentoring artists, performers and disability service providers. The quality and quantity of time spent together has forged strong bonds of trust, creating a space in which to share stories and connect deeply with others.

Incite initiated the formation of SWD after the huge success of its community inclusive theatre production ‘Close to Me’ in 2011.

The group is made up of a core of 11 people with disability who are female, male, aboriginal and non-aboriginal ranging from 18 to 52 years old.
