Alice and Beyond

The Residency Arts Program is proud to present ‘Alice and Beyond’, the first solo exhibition of local artist and healer, Jane Su-Ming Lai (Ming Lai).

‘Alice and Beyond’ describes the subject matter of Ming Lai’s exhibition, both literally and metaphorically. Her paintings reflect her unbridled passion for the desert landscape and the way she feels when immersed in the ‘blissful beauty of Central Australia’. These feelings are expressed through form, colour, light and texture – in a style that is painterly and filled with joy.

‘My desire is to be able to interpret the bright natural light and the impact it has on the rocks and the ranges of Central Australia. My dream is for the observer to actually feel the scenery talking to him or her – heart and soul’.

To coincide with the exhibition, Ming Lai will be conducting two Art of Storytelling workshops where she will guide participants through ‘Breath Meditation’ and ‘Creative Visualization’ exercises, to help them express their emotions through art. This is a very personal journey so the sharing of stories among workshop participants is completely optional. There are limited places so bookings are essential.
