Celebrate ‘Welcoming Diversity’ for World Refugee Day
To celebrate World Refugee Day, Anglicare-NT is holding a free ‘drop-in’ needle felting activity from 10am – 5.00pm on Saturday 21 and Sunday 22 June 2014 at this year’s Alice Springs Beanie Festival.
All materials will be provided and if you don’t know how to needle-felt, there will be someone on hand to show you. Everyone is welcome to experience the creative joy of needle felting to help make a ‘Welcoming Diversity Banner’. Each colourful needle felted square will then be sewn together to create the banner as a way to promote a greater awareness and a culture of respect and tolerance towards refugees. The banner will encourage reflection on the millions of refugees and displaced persons worldwide who have been forced to flee their homes due to war, conflict and persecution and a message to them that there is a way to find safety, regain hope and rebuild their lives.
For more information on this free event please contact Jen Standish-White at Anglicare-NT on 0417 468 502 or [email protected]
This event is brought to you by Anglicare-NT and is supported by the Australian Government Department of Social Services Diversity and Social Cohesion Programme.
