Prepare for a feast of words and bush foods at this feature event at the NT Writers’ Festival – Alice Springs.

Featuring special festival guest, author Bruce Pascoe, a Bunurong, Tasmanian and Yuin man whose recent book Dark Emu (Magabala Books 2014) won the Book of the Year as well as the Indigenous Writer’s Prize in the 2016 NSW Premier’s Literary Awards.

In Dark Emu Pascoe draws on the diaries of early explorers as evidence that Aboriginal people were sowing, harvesting, irrigating and storing food.

Gather for sunset beneath the ranges at Madigan’s, in the Alice Springs Desert Park. Evening includes short readings by Maureen Jipyiliya Nampijimpa O’Keefe, Sue Fielding and Kim Mahood and the short film ‘Walk To Gather Learn To Gather’, courtesy of Kanyirninpa Jukurrpa.

The dinner is catered by Kungkas Can Cook, with a stunning selection of native foods collected from country.
