Desert Harmony Fesival

The Desert Harmony Festival celebrates its 25th Anniversary in spectacular style! Spanning 17 days, this pinnacle event showcases an impressive line-up of cultural, contemporary, Indigenous and youth events in the heart of the NT. Held in Tennant Creek, NT, and hosted by Barkly Regional Arts, the festival invites audiences to experience music, visual arts, theatre, food, cultural activities, parades, film and dance.

The 25th Desert Harmony Festival pays homage to the Barkly’s ‘History of Innovation’, bringing to light the faded memories from the past 25 years and fusing it with the festival of today. In honour of the Barkly community and this momentous occasion, this years Festivals Australia project will see ‘notorious’ stencil artist, Regan Tamanui, line the main street of Tennant Creek with 25 banners, reflecting the spirit of community and festival.

This year features performances by East Arnhem land sensations EAST JOURNEY, Seychelles Islander GRACE BARBE, the DESERT DIVAS, LEASH & THE DUSTY BOOTS, and a host of great local bands from across the Barkly region. DEADLY FUNNY brings their comedy road show to Tennant Creek, boasting a magnificent cast including funny man KEVIN KROPINYERI.

“It’s an exciting year for the festival, as there is a wide range of community events to showcase. The festival provides an opportunity for people to learn and experience remote indigenous culture”, says Festival Manager Kathy Burns.

Opening the 25th Desert Harmony Festival with a spectacular flurry of fire and fun, PSYCUS DUO ON FIRE and NINJA CIRCUS will wow audiences with their acrobatic skills and dazzling cabaret of fire.
Directed by celebrated auteur Rolph De Heer (Ten Canoes, The Tracker) and featuring renowned Australian actor David Gulpilil, there will be an exclusive screening under the stars of ‘CHARLIE’S COUNTRY’. Music NT presents the HOT SHOTS photo exhibition, and Artists of the Barkly present LUSH DESERT, an exhibition of new paintings emerging after the intense summer rainfall and flooding across the region earlier this year.

The annual GALA DINNER will provide a high dining experience with cooking demonstrations, an intimate music performance by GRACE BARBE and the much-loved annual wine matching. ARTS CULTURE
EXPERIENCE DAY will feature traditional dance, arts market, bush tucker and local music. NAISDA will host the popular youth dance night DEADLY DANCING, and THE DIRTY WORD & SUNSET SESSIONS CABARET both provide an intimate experience and chance for community members to show off their talents.
