The Institute for Aboriginal Development (IAD) would like to invite you to join with us in our next FIRST FRIDAY event being held on site at the IAD Campus, 3 South Terrace, Alice Springs on Friday May 4^th 2012 from 11am to 3pm.

The FIRST FRIDAY events are open invitation for Aboriginal people, organisations and community from Alice Springs and Central Australia to share and showcase their achievements and aspirations. It provides a platform to, on a regular basis, share, network and promote the cultural, social, educational and recreational work and programs that are available in our community for our people.

A primary motivating factor in establishing the FIRST FRIDAY program was the recognition that there is so much good work and positive achievement in Alice Springs that is happening in isolation. It is important that we all know what is happening in Health, Family Services, Financial Literacy, Education, Employment, Sport and Recreation, Language, Media, Arts and Culture. It is also important that we have a space where we can all network and learn from each other and share this with our children, youth and families.

Each FIRST FRIDAY event will invite the broadest range of participation from across our community – and each month there will be a nominated theme that shines an extra light on that particular focus area. The theme for the May FIRST FRIDAY event will be “Language: speaking from the heart.”

Language for all people is the basis of who we are and is the foundation to identity and well being – physical, emotional and spiritual. IAD is committed to working with Arrernte people and Aboriginal people from across Central Australia to maintain and strengthen the sharing and teaching of language.

At the first FIRST FRIDAY event participants presented displays, showed films, gave talks, played games, painted, sung and told stories. IAD welcomes you and your ideas and values the contribution that you make to our community.
