Golden Record/Shadow Selfie

In this time of hyperreality & personal branding, selfie sticks measuring the distance between us and them – what is undeleted ? What determines how we choose to present the present? What smoulders in the sealed sections of our psyches ? What festers in collective shame files ? How are digital mergers & neoliberal acquisitions of language affecting our conception of self?

Join us for a carefully curated selection of audio exploring these ideas, including tracks from the 1977 voyager golden record as a jumping off point.

What is altered when we turn down the vol on one sense and re-center another?

Come at 7 for a warm-up 30 mins of snack & mingle before voices hush and listening begins.

A first in a series of listening events to be held at a range of locations around Mparntwe Alice Springs curated by local artist Beth Sometimes in collaboration with an unfolding cast of others and in partnership with Watch This Space. The series aims to cultivate listening practice, explore sound as a medium and use art practice as a mode of generating alternative economies of exchange.

This is a free event. BYO snacks. Crunchy food not recommended ;)))
