Henry Smith – New Works

New Works represents a search for the hidden within the visible or ‘real’ Central Desert landscape. The tension and synthesis between these two perceived states is the basis for a new series of paintings by Alice Springs artist and arts lecturer Henry Smith. Smith’s works lay this combined tension and harmony bare as they simultaneously move in and out of an abstract focus, creating landscapes ambiguous in scale and perspective. Searching for new ways of understanding and revealing the landscape, the world within Smith’s paintings is at once familiar and unrecognisable. New Works is experimental in nature and informed by Smith’s 20 years of entwined studio and fieldwork.
