Papunya Smiles – Book Launch and Photographic Exhibition
The Residency Arts Program is proud to present the Australian launch of Tamara Burlando’s self-published book ‘Papunya Smiles’.
‘Papunya Smiles’ is a project that started in 2009 when Argentinian artist and photographer Tamara Burlando and her partner moved to Papunya as youth workers. The experience had a dramatic impact on their lives, especially as their son Miro was born there.
‘Those years are very important for me and for my family. As a thank-you to the community and as a means of informing and celebrating the vibrant reality of remote indigenous communities, I create this book, with a very special selection of photos’.’
Tamara was able to publish the book due to the generous support of CAYLUS (Central Australian Link Up Service), Papunya Tjupi Art Centre, Papunya Community Store and the people of Papunya community.
‘Papunya Smiles’ was initially launched in Tamara’s home town – Buenos Aries, Argentina – as part of the Festival de la Luz in September this year.
