Phil Elson Ceramics Demonstration & Workshop

It is with great pleasure that Central Craft announce a weekend demonstration & workshop event with master ceramicist Phil Elson, taking place on Saturday May 11th & Sunday May 12th here at Central Craft.

Phil has exhibited and is represented nationally and internationally and brings 30 years of ceramics practice to us, informed by the traditional ceramics cultures of Asia and pushing into sculptural and architectural fields with multi-piece installations after he was awarded a three month Australia Council Studio residency in Barcelona, Spain. Using Southern Ice translucent porcelain in glazed and monochromatic high-fired ways, he focuses on the development of form, particularly the form of the bowl.

SATURDAY MAY 11 th , 9:30 – 4:30

Phil’s Saturday demonstration will begin with a brief viewing of images of the artist’s work and will then focus on the thrown form and emphasize the key elements of wheel – thrown work. The important aspects of clay preparation, centering, shape and form will all be covered in the demonstration . Phil will display his throwing technique utilizing the bowl form which is often considered c entral to his arts practice.
