Presented by the Araluen Arts Centre

This year, the Araluen Arts Centre proudly presents the Portrait of a Senior Territorian Art Award for the first time in Alice Springs. This annual acquisitive Award, valued at $7000, showcases the artistic talents of Northern Territory artists through their representations of senior residents of the Northern Territory.

The Portrait of a Senior Territorian has been held at Parliament House in Darwin since its inception in 1999 and the winning works have formed a significant collection. The Award acts as recognition of Senior Territorians, their lives, histories and contributions to community, while fostering arts practice. Previous winners include both prominent and emerging Northern Territory artists, and their subjects have included strong leaders but also those who have lived and brought richness to their families and communities in less public ways.

The Portrait of a Senior Territorian Art Award celebrates both artist and subject, a prestigious award that grants access to the lives and stories of these important members of our communities though the intimacy and energy of portraiture.

Opening night sees the announcement of the winners, chosen by an esteemed panel of Judges. The public can also vote across the exhibition period for their People’s Choice Prize.
