Printmaking workshop: Etching and Mono-printing
Classes begin 21st Feb
6-9pm for a 9 week term
Etching is a form of Intaglio printmaking where by the etched plate is exposed to a mordant which etches the image into the plate to make them into permanent marks. Ink is then applied to the plate, wiped back leaving it in the lower recesses from where it is printed under pressure in a printing press. The etching mark is like no other and is capable of producing a beautiful richness, from which many prints can be taken.
Mono-printing on the other hand is one off. Marks are made on an inked surface by manually moving/ masking and parting ink before each print is taken, never to be repeated in the same way.
Both these processes can be seductive and surprising , a printed image can metamorphose beyond the initial marks, however subtly. In this way printmaking while working with drawing goes beyond it, and allows unselfconscious experimentation with mark making. Drawing processes are included in this series of classes.
This course is for both beginners and more experienced printmakers, all are very welcome. You do not need to have any drawing or printmaking experience , just a curiosity and interest in art.
