Portraits of Australian Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander People with Disability by photographer Belinda Mason
Launched at the The Palais des Nations in Geneva and part of Australia’s official contribution to the United Nations 2014 World Conference on Indigenous Persons in New York, the nationally touring Unfinished Business project reveals the stories of 30 people with disability from Australian Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander communities, captured by award winning artist Belinda Mason though a distinctive form of portraiture.
Unfinished Business consists of 30 3D lenticular backlit portraits, offering an intensified connection to the photographed subjects through their holographic effect. The portraits capture a group of individuals who live with a wide range of disability experiences, giving access to their respective stories, complex and intertwined as they are with Australia’s political and social history, and drawing much-needed attention to critical issues that impact on their lives.
