Since 1998 the NT Writers’ Centre has presented the NT Writers’ Festival annually, alternating between Wordstorm – Darwin and Eye of the Storm – Alice Springs.
In 2016 Wordstorm, May 5 – 8, brings you three days and four nights of writing, culture and ideas in the Top End. Join us in Darwin for workshops, book launches, performances and more, on this year’s festival theme – The Fabric of Family.
Well-loved actress and comedian Magda Szubanski will discuss her critically acclaimed family memoir, Reckoning, in an intimate setting at the Christ Church Cathedral.
Also featuring is Indonesia’s rising star Eka Kurniawan who is reaching audiences and ‘must read’ lists worldwide since his epic novel, Beauty is a Wound, was translated into English last year.
Treat yourself to Mother’s Day brunch with popular ABC broadcaster Richard Glover discussing his memoir of an unusual childhood, Flesh Wounds.
We are also thrilled to be launching new books by NT authors. Marie Munkara, the 2010 winner of the NT Book of the Year, returns to Darwin to launch her memoir, Of Ashes and Rivers that Run to the Sea. Written about her quest as a young woman to find her family, the memoir has already been described as “heartbreaking, darkly funny and deeply moving”.
Recent winner of the Victorian Prize for Literature Mary Anne Butler will launch the publication of her multi-award winning play, Broken.
And don’t miss the launch of Toni Tapp Coutts’s book, A Sunburnt Childhood, the story of her adolescence on Killarney Station in the NT’s true Outback.
Panels will run throughout the day on Saturday and Sunday in the Brown’s Mart Courtyard. You’ll be tempted to stay for the whole day with a $15 whole-day Panel Pass.
Wordstorm 2016 is set to be another highly anticipated celebration of great writers and writing.
