Lens Flair and Cinema by the River Project Coordinator Position Description


Background 

The Alice Desert Festival (ADF) is the premier arts and cultural festival of central Australia, in its 12th year in 2012. ADF 2012 dates are 7-16 September, with other events falling in our extended festival season of Aug-Oct.

Cinema by the River is an outdoor film screening held on the banks of the Todd River. Held over 2 nights it has previously featured a showing of a classic Australian full length film alongside competition entries from Lens Flair, other short films and new Indigenous cinema. Lens Flair has been introduced over the last two festivals to build the capacity of local film makers. Lens Flair comprises of a workshop series of 8 workshops and a Short Film Competition. The workshops are run by experienced film professionals in various facets of pre, during and post production over Sunday’s in July and August.

Position Description

The Lens Flair and Cinema by the River Coordinator will be responsible for the planning and delivery of the Lens Flair and Cinema by the River projects and associated events.

The successful applicant will work as part of the active Red Hot Arts Central Australia team and report directly to the Alice Desert Festival Manager.

Key Duties

  • Work independently on event and competition planning including: technical requirements, transport and liaising with participants, partners, sponsors and contractors
  • Booking relevant equipment and sourcing permissions, ensuring project deadlines are met
  • Develop and deliver the Lens Flair Short Film competition and manage all communications with entrants alongside RHACA staff
  • Develop and deliver the Lens Flair workshop program including contracting appropriate facilitators, booking venues and promotion to public
  • Developing and delivering marketing and promotional outputs in collaboration with RHACA Marketing Officer
  • Work in a team environment with the Festival Manager and other RHACA staff
  • Provide regular project updates to the Festival Manager
  • Set & monitor the project budget
  • Curating the cinema program for Cinema By the River in collaboration with the Alice Desert Festival Manager
  • Liaise with the Production Coordinator on producing the event and workshops, OH&S issues, permits, travel and accommodation and other event requirements
  • Communicate with existing and source new sponsors/partners
  • Ensure appropriate documentation and reporting of event
  • Adhere to RHACA internal processes
  • Current “Ochre Card” for working with children
  • Experience in event management and/or project management inc report writing and budget management
  • Film making knowledge and experience
  • Current Drivers License and ABN
  • Experience in working with multiple stakeholders and diverse audiences especially working with schools and children
  • Experience in film festivals/short film competitions

Essential

  • Current “Ochre Card” for working with children
  • Experience in event management and/or project management inc report writing and budget management
  • Film making knowledge and experience
  • Current Drivers License and ABN

Desirable

  • Experience in working with multiple stakeholders and diverse audiences especially working with schools and children
  • Experience in film festivals/short film competitions

Contract

$10,000 – $11,000 ($25/hr) – subject to confirmation of external funding

Inclusive of all personal expenses e.g. superannuation, car, accommodation, mobile, public liability insurances

Timeframe

April – October 2012, averaging 2 days per week, flexible work arrangements and office space is available.
