Wearable Art Awards 2012: Categories & Important dates

Adult WAA Show Categories – limited to seven entries per category; maximum 3 models per entry:

TOP NOTCH   Head into the great unknown…..

CRITERIA: Headpiece, hat or mask with no limitation on theme or materials.

Plain black body base (leotard/trousers/dress) required with no embellishments.

Art piece may extend above and beyond the head area if desired.

A maximum of one piece per entry.

NEW WORLD SUSTAINABILITY – WATER

Bodies sweat in the desert like rocks heated by day condensing at night. Dripping into the shadows at dawn, down into the earth to quench our future selves.

CRITERIA: Entry is to be created from a minimum of 80% recycled, manmade materials.

NATURAL FIBRES   Embrace nature, feel its texture. It’s wild and woolly, smooth as silk, rough as raffia and as feral as fur. Let your imagination go ‘au naturale’.

CRITERIA: Entry is to be created from a minimum of 80% natural fibres.

FANTASIA   Push those old coats in your wardrobe aside and step into the enchanted forest.

Explore the galaxy beyond and dance across the dreamtime, dive into the deep or frolic in fantasy land. Creations that turn the everyday reality into a living masterpiece.

CRITERIA: No thematic boundaries and complete freedom with materials.

YOUTH CATEGORY – YEARS 7-12 or equivalent age group

Express yourself, make a statement, go wild, run free, show us what you’re made of.

CRITERIA: No thematic boundaries and complete freedom with materials.

OPEN CATEGORY  For teams of two or more designers. No thematic boundary.  Teams are free to merge their creative talents, tell their own stories and design their own outfits in whichever flavour they so desire!

CRITERIA: No thematic boundaries and complete freedom with materials.

MASTER CLASS

CRITERIA:  Entrants by invitation; open to previous category/s winners only.

Each participant will receive a “Master Box” which contains identical core materials for construction of art piece.  These materials ONLY can be used for construction of masterpieces.  This section may be choreographed and incorporated into a performance after interval.

 

Children’s WAA Show Categories – limited to eight entries per category:

The Student Awards will consist of three categories divided into two school year sections:

Junior (up to Year 4)

Senior (Years’ 5 and 6)

RECYCLED OR FOUND OBJECTS

CRITERIA: Entries to be made of a minimum 80% recycled or found objects.

A maximum of two creations and two models per entry.

OPEN FANTASIA  Let your imagination run wild!

CRITERIA: No limits on materials used.

A maximum of two creations and two models per entry.

SCHOOL ENTRY

CRITERIA:  Number of creators unlimited.

A maximum of three creations and three models per entry.

Adult WAA Show Prizes 

Cheques will be posted to winners within 14 days of the announcement.

Performance Award

These prizes will be awarded for the best presentations (performance, choreography and music that best enhances the impact of the outfit)

1st Prize $500

People’s Choice Award

(2x) $500 – the audience votes for their favourite creation.

 IMPORTANT DATES TO REMEMBER:

28th and 29th July:  WAA pieces inspection and music drop off at Red Hot Arts Central Australia, 67 Bath St (times to be advised).

19th August:  WAA pieces to be dropped off at Araluen Arts Theatre, Larapinta Drive (times to be advised).

23rd August:  TECHNICAL REHEARSAL – Araluen Arts Theatre (times to be advised)

24th August:  DRESS REHEARSAL – Araluen Arts Theatre (times to be advised)
