With a Field’s Award Nomination for her ‘Contribution to Australian Vaudeville’ (2015) and act direction for the winning performances of Miss Burlesque Australia (Zelia Rose 2014) and Mr Boylesque Australia (Egson Ham 2015), Elizabeth Dawson-smith (aka Miss Friby) has certainly got a keen eye for lifting anyone’s performance game!

This practical, hands on class involves developing new work/concepts, under the direction and tuition of Elizabeth, with the intention of building upon existing work/ideas you are exploring. This informative, high energy class will see Elizabeth break down some simple elements which can be utilised in any performance for further texture, dynamics & refinement. Having taught/directed & choreographed a range of performers in the genre of Hoop, Fire, Dance Striptease & Non-Striptease, Trapeze, Comedy/Clowning, Cabaret and Acro, Elizabeth has developed a range of performance techniques/tricks to lift your game as a performer.

Participants do not need to have an act ready to go, this workshop is beneficial to creating performance at any stage in the creative process.

PLEASE BRING: a pen/paper to take notes during the workshop, water bottle, light snacks

PLEASE WEAR: Comfortable movement gear (stretch, fitness), Runners (or barefoot)

About Miss Friby…

With a First Class Honours accreditation in ‘Nineteenth Century Burlesque Traditions (2014), Elizabeth has made her mark on the vaudeville, cabaret and burlesque circuit, with two Green Room Award nominations (2012/15), a Fields Award nomination for her ‘Contribution to Australian Vaudeville’ (2015) and act direction for the winning entries of Miss Burlesque Australia 2014 (Zelia Rose) and Mr Boylesque Australia 2015 (Egson Ham).

As principle performer/producer for boutique production company, Miss Friby, Elizabeth has been presenting and producing critically acclaimed Cabaret, Vaudeville and Burlesque works for a range of venues and events including The National Gallery of Victoria (Art After Dark Series 2012), Splendour in the Grass (2012-17), Woodford Folk Festival (2012-2014), Australia’s Got Talent (Finalist 2013) and The World Famous Spiegeltent (2012) to name a few.

Elizabeth’s knack for performance development & movement, has seen her teach all over Australia at many industry events Spinfest Circus Festival (2017/18), Congress on Undress (2017), BB’s House of Burlesque (2017) and she also works with professional artists across the genres of circus, film, web series, theatre, cabaret, music & dance to deliver high quality work and mentor their creative practise.
