This is a unique opportunity to experience Ngaanyatjarra culture and contribute to the understanding of Ngaanyatjarra culture, law, and storytelling practices through visual arts. As our artists play a major role in maintaining law and culture, their art practice provides a vital role in narrating Tjukurrpa (traditional law and culture), connection to country and ancestors.
Located at Blackstone, a remote Aboriginal community in the Ngaanyatjarra Lands, Western Australia, Papulankutja Artists is a community-driven enterprise facilitating visual art production and employment for Aboriginal art workers. Papulankutja Artists’ art centre incorporates studio spaces for its member artists and a small gallery shop. The art centre also works with artists at Mantamaru (Jameson), a community 75kms to the west who have close family connections.
We are looking for a creative and motivated manager with sound business, financial and visual arts skills. A passion and commitment to the arts and community is essential.
The manager is responsible for the day-to-day operation of the art centre including supervising Yarnangu art workers, volunteers, and contracted specialists (trainers, visual artists, workshop convenors), generating sales, marketing, promotion, visual arts development, and brand growth. The diverse role also involves artist support and professional development, product development, supporting the governing body (directors) as well as assisting with cultural continuance.
The role requires someone with initiative who can multi-task in a cross-cultural environment, has strong communication skills, is flexible and able to work independently.

What’s on offer
After a probation period, a two-year contract at $65,000 to $75, 000 p.a. (dependant on experience) plus superannuation. Other generous benefits to be discussed at the interview.
