Borderlands is a homegrown literary journal that offers Northern Territory writers, artists and poets a new forum for thought and expression will be launched at Alice Springs. General editor Dr Glenn Morrison said Borderlands Magazine was a storytelling publication that aimed to foster a unique Territory voice.

‘Borderlands is a non-academic publication that hopes to capture some of the essence of the Territory and our experience of living in it,’ Dr Morrison said. ‘A first online pilot edition is now live at, with diverse content including fiction, nonfiction, poetry and audio-visuals that exploit the digital environment.’

This launch also marks a second Borderlands achievement for 2019, the publication of a special feature of Territory writers in edition 64.2 of Westerly, the highly respected literary magazine published at University of Western Australia since 1956. Curated by Borderlands, the feature showcases six Territory writers and their work, Jo Dutton, Mary Anne Butler, Joanne Tuscano, David McGuigan & Anonymous. Edition 64.2 will be available to purchase.

Borderlands Magazine is supported by Charles Darwin University (CDU) and Batchelor Institute of Indigenous Tertiary Education (BIITE) and is sponsored by Arts NT, Creative Partnerships Australia and the Australian Government’s Regional Arts Fund. The Borderlands editorial team ⎯ comprising Dr Morrison of BIITE, and Dr Adelle Sefton-Rowston and Raelke Grimmer, both lecturers at CDU ⎯ is grateful to sponsors, donors and patrons who make publishing Borderlands possible.
