Neridah Stockley: Paper and Clay
November 9, 2018 - December 1, 2018
‘Paper and Clay’ presents the latest development in Neridah Stockley’s continuing experimentation into the use of ceramic vessels as a support for her signature minimalist mark making.
The paper works in the show are drypoint etchings made by scratching into and inking up sheets of acetate. By subjecting imagery to the elements of ink and mechanical pressure she exposes the work to potential alchemic transformation. As Neridah simply puts it, as though it is no big deal “it’s just like cooking”.
The results from these two processes create an interesting dialogue; the drypoints having the gritty tonal quality of a mono print and the fired clay is an excellent surface for the drawn line and wash.
The strength and integrity of Neridah’s mark making and process activate both the works on paper and clay. There is an element of play in the new work and it is obvious that Neridah is having fun cooking with clay but the proof is in the pudding, come and see the show…
