Peter Newry was a Miriwoong man, his paintings are beautifully understated and deceptively minimalist in their rendering. They evoke a sense of he regarded as the true history, the stories that cannot be told, the stories from the Ngarrangarni.
“Newry has cultivated a refined imagery that in a western context could be seen as a minimalist  expression of the subliminal interchange between the seen and the unseen. They are a paintings that present a profound meditation on the history of landscape and the meaning of cultural connection”  Cathy Cummins, Waringarri Arts
