Melbourne International Guitar Competition Winner
Presented by Araluen Arts Centre

A prize winner in over 50 major international performance competitions, Yuki Saito’s performances have been described as “faultless… his musical phrasing was mature and expressive. We witnessed a true artist become one with his instrument” (Michael MacManus, Melbourne Guitar Festival Artistic Director).

No stranger to the concert stage, in recent years Yuki has toured extensively throughout Germany, Spain, Italy, Portugal, Denmark, Netherlands and Finland.  And in 2019 Yuki was awarded the honor of becoming a Eurostrings Artist in recognition of his performance competition success in Europe.

Currently Yuki is based in Weimar, Germany, where he is completing guitar performance studies with the renowned performer and educator Ricardo Gallen.

After winning the prestigious 2019 Melbourne Guitar Festival International Concert Artist Competition, Yuki is returning to Australia for his prize winning tour.

Revealing the influence of era-defining composers on guitar, Yuki captures the beauty and mysticism entwined within.

Experience the dazzling virtuosity of Mertz’s Hungarian Fantasy and the sweet melancholy evident in Paraguayan Augustin Barrios’ last ever written work, Una Limosna, and Australian premiere performances of works by contemporary Japanese composers.

With works spanning from the 17th century to today, these pieces uncover a world of vibrant colour, imagination and rhythmic landscapes.
