“Alice Sings is a community choir that has been singing for over 5 years. It is open to anyone in Alice Springs who wishes to participate. During the two week residency, members of Alice Sings will be invited into the space to experiment with and workshop new composition ideas. These interactions with a wide variety of different voices will be an important part of the creative process. The goal is to begin to develop a repertoire of new original works for the choir that will be further developed and performed at a later date.” Ed Gould
Ed will undertake his residency from April 7th-20th. Stay tuned to find out about public workshops happening during this time.
I am a musician, composer and choir director. I have written and produced my own original electronic bedroom-pop under the name Edward Francis, composed and led numerous musical ensembles, created immersive musical performance pieces as part of Melbourne Fringe and Next Wave Festivals and I teach music to young people in primary school around Alice Springs. As an artist and musician, I have always been interested in creating immersive experiences. I have a Bachelor of Music Performance (Honours) from the VCA where I studied saxophone and improvisation and have been performing, writing and working as a musician for 15 years. I am the co-founder, musical arranger and facilitator of Alice Sings, a community choir that seeks to create original arrangements of a high standard, while also engaging as much of the community in the process or music making as possible. I have a strong belief that community art and community music is not ‘less than’ other art forms. As a composer and music maker, I believe that opening up opportunities for creative expression to the wider public is an exciting and often refreshing way to find musical inspiration.
