“This 2 weeks Red Hot Arts residency will give me the opportunity to dedicate all my time and energy into developing a children’s show for an album I am about to release. I will be experimenting with different materials, predominantly recycled materials, to create different characters for the production.” Sally Balfour
Sally will be in residence at from February 1st – 12th and will offering a public workshop for kids aged 5-10 at some stage throughout the residency.
As the daughter of Central Australian folk music royalty, it is little wonder Sally Balfour has found her way to the stage as a singer-songwriter. While the isolation and extremes of the NT loom large in her songwriting, Sally’s music connects on an individual level. Through Sally’s deeply personal, acoustic guitar driven songs, you’re taken on the journey of one woman’s life in Australia’s outback.
“Sally Balfour’s voice has a resonance that just draws you in and keeps you captivated. Balfour is that special breed of folk singer who is able to entrance an audience with just a guitar and her beautiful voice” – Timber and Steel
“Sally’s a superb singer/songwriter, both creative and easy going… Her new song Calling Me Home is one of the best I’ve heard in a long time.” – Bill Chambers
“Sally herself has a rare talent as a singer/songwriter/instrumentalist and is delighting audiences at each concert appearance” – Ted Egan
Early 2020 saw Sally Balfour release her debut single ‘Calling Me Home’ which has had air play on Triple J, ABC national radio as well as community radio stations across Australia. She followed this success releasing two further singles during the Covid 19 pandemic. 2021 will see Sally release not only her next single but also her debut children’s album ‘Clara Crocodile’, a side project involving Alice Springs musicians like Ted Egan, Warren H Williams, Katie Harder and Dave Crowe to name a few.”
