To support local independent artists, Red Hot Arts Central Australia provides an auspicing service for unincorporated artists or artist groups wanting to apply for grants. As many grants are only open to incorporated associations, it can be hard for independent artists or groups to obtain grant funding. When a grant applicant is not a legal entity, it is common that the applicant is required to nominate an auspicing body to be responsible for the management of the grant.

An auspicing agreement is when an unincorporated individual or group submit a grant application under the umbrella of an incorporated organisation. The auspicing organisation receives and administers the funding on behalf of the unincorporated individual or group, including holding the money in a bank account, paying out the money to meet the costs of the project, and reporting the funding body and accounting for how the money is spent. All other aspects of the project, such as creative processes, artistic decisions, marketing, and technical needs, remain the responsibility of the individual or group.

For grants equal to or below $20,000, RHACA’s auspicing administration fee is 5% of the total grant amount, and 10% for grants $20,000 and higher.

Auspicing enquiries must be received at least two weeks out from the grant due date.
