Spend an afternoon with artists of Ltyentye Apurte Traditional Craft Centre and Keringke Arts on their Eastern Arrernte Country at Ltyentye Apurte/Santa Teresa, 80 kilometres east of Mparntwe.
Leaving from the Araluen Arts Centre, a coach will take you just over an hour’s drive east of Mparntwe through stunning country, to be welcomed by artists from Ltyentye Apurte Traditional Craft Centre. You'll learn about the trees and timber they select to carve their artworks, a variety of wood from local trees such as ankerre (coolabah), tyertepe(blue mallee), athenge (ironwood) and artetye (mulga). You'll also enjoy a demonstration of the artists’ carving skills.
Guests of the tour will also head to Keringke Arts art centre and gallery. Famous for their use of pattern, colour, shape and design, see where Keringke artists paint their sense of country, culture and self.
The tour also includes a visit to the local Spirituality Centre and Catholic Church to see the historic murals painted by artists from the community over 20 years ago. There will also be the opportunity to purchase works from both Ltyentye Apurte Traditional Craft Centre and Keringke Arts.
